Tomoki Kuromoto – Sword-Smith

Mr. Kuromoto has had a deep interest in swords since a was a child. He wanted to become a craftsman right away, without going to school, but his parents were strongly against it, and he had to attend high school. From there, he immersed himself in other things that interested him, such as music, fashion, and motorcycles.
After graduating from high school, he began to think about what he really wanted to do, and decided to become a sword-smith, which has been on his mind since childhood.

He applied to become a disciple of Mr. Yoshihito Yoshihara and Mr. Yoshikazu Yoshihara, in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo.
From there, he trained for five years with them and acquired his sword-smith license. In his seventh year, he rented a blacksmith’s workshop to his master and became semi-independent.

However, as he was talking night after night with three other disciples about their future and their situation, he decided to establish his own sword-smith company. In March 2019, he launched his sword-smith company, “Nihon Genshosha Co., Ltd.”.
From there, he was looking for a site to establish his workshop in the Kanto area, but for more than two years, he could not find a suitable place. While doing so, he received a proposal from one of his colleagues to open a blacksmith workshop in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture. After visiting the place, he discovered how a wonderful place it was, with good people, nature, history, and delicious food.
That’s how he started the establishment of his blacksmith workshop in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture, and opened it in January 2022.
