Terashima Yasutaro Shoten – Gold and silver threads factory

Mr Terashima Daigo – Forth generation owner of Kyoto Kinginshi Terashima Yasutaka Shoten (established in 1897)

Mr Terashima Daigo was born in 1973 in Kyoto. Nowadays he is the fourth generation owner of Kyoto Kin Ginshi (gold and silver threads factory). The gold and silver threads have been used in the costumes of noble people, and have been valued as a symbol of pride and longing. Mr Terashima Daigo says: we have been making the brilliance of gold and silver into a “precious form”, we have been making gold and silver threads for about 120 years since our establishment, with the aim of helping to create treasures for local culture and our customers. Gold and silver threads are used in many festivals around Japan, for Noh and Kabuki theatre costumes and Sumo wrestler’s costumes.
