Atelier Rubijoux – Custom-made jewelry

“I want to show my personality. I want to fascinate with my personality. You can wear this thought.”

Atelier Rubijoux, a factory established by Ms.Rui Kikuchi in Kyoto in 2016 produces custom-made art jewelry. Rui was born in Kyoto in 1982. She moved to Sydney with her family in 1988 and spent her formative years in Australia.

In 2003 she graduated from the University of Sydney’s Sydney College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, majoring in Object Art and Design. After completing her degree Rui returned to Japan and attended the Itami College of Jewelry in Hyogo Prefecture in 2008. Since then, she has exhibited widely throughout the Asia Pacific and Europe including a collection at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

Atelier Rubijoux was born from the concept of creating a world in which Rui herself wants to live even though we are surrounded by mass production/mass consumption, while the connection between people, culture, and the region tends to weaken.

In recent years, values have fluctuated, and people are demanding things that contain various “feelings”.

Rubijoux offers designs that respond to the times while preserving traditional patterns and techniques.

Rui is also collaborating with Kyoto craftsmen to explore new forms based on history and culture. She is particular about raw materials and use recycled silver, keeping in mind that the production of raw materials will cause environmental destruction or human rights violations.

The main motivation of Rubijoux is to support a society that lives in a culture that appreciates what it has created over time and loves handicrafts that transcend generations.
