Ai Kawamura – Painter
Born in 1975 in the city of Nobeoka, Miyazaki Prefecture, Ai Kawamura is a Japanese painting artist. She encountered « Nihonga », Japanese traditional painting techniques as she was a University student. She now lives and works in Fukuoka.
She presides Japanese painting classes in various places, within Japan but also abroad, as she strives to spread and promote Japanese painting through workshops.

She did many solo exhibitions in Japan and since 2016 joined exhibitions and art fairs in Korea, Taiwan, Paris, and Florida. Her work has been praised and recognized worldwide.

Her work took a new direction when she started to combine traditional Japanese-style painting and contemporary abstract painting. She has notably been using a traditional Japanese-style painting technique called « yaki-haku ». Silver leaves are oxidized to black through heat created by applying sulfur powder. It gives the art a wabi-sabi feel.
